Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club Of America
garden2.jpg - 15614 Bytes Pecan Valley is the name of our home and kennel in Mayflower, Arkansas where we have lived with, bred, and shown Cardigan Welsh Corgi's for the last twenty years. During this time, we have tried to produce quality dogs that excel in both the show ring and as a valued companion. Our dogs are home raised and genetically tested. We take great care of our dogs and expect the same from anyone who purchases one of our puppies.

Cardigan Welsh Corgi: bseely All of our puppies are pre-selected as to premium show quality or companion. However, since all of our puppies are home-raised, receive loving personal attention, and the Cardigan Corgi breed are naturally good companion animals, all of our premium show quality puppies make excellent pets and companions. The primary difference between our show and companion animals is that puppies purchased as premium show quality must be shown.

heather If you are looking for a Cardigan Welsh Corgi puppy, feel free to look in our Puppy Photo Gallery to see what we have available, or Contact Us directly. We are not a puppy mill and only do very selective breeding to insure the quality of our dogs. As such, we do not always have puppies available. If we do not have puppies immediately available, we may be able to assist you through our network of other premium breeders that we associate with. We may also be able to provide you details as to when we expect to have puppies. We often have a waiting list, so if you are serious about a premium show Cardigan Corgi or quality companion animal, or both, you are encouraged to Contact Us and complete our Application Form well in advance of your needs.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi

A small, hardy, and foxy-looking dog found about 3,000 years ago in the remote, misty green hills of Cardiganshire in Wales. It got it's name from "Cor" for dwarf and "gi" for dog, thus it was a "Corgi". This Corgi dog was highly valued as an affectionate companion, guard dog, general farm worker, and driver of cattle. So valued were these animals, that ancient Welsh law provided for severe penalties to anyone that harmed or stole a Corgi. They are among the oldest of all herding breeds. An average Cardigan Corgi is around 10.5 to 12.5 inches tall at the withers and weighs from 30 to 38 lb. for the male and 25 to 34 lb. for the female.

grac The Cardigan Welsh Corgi should not be confused confused with the more common and tailless Pembroke Welsh Corgi. The Cardigan Corgi is a separate breed of ancient lineage (3,000 years), descended from the Teckel canine family. The tailless Pembroke Welsh Corgi is an off-shoot of the original Cardigan.

One of the best features of a Cardigan Corgi is their personality. They are a big dog in a small package! The Cardigan Corgi's temperament is based of their original purpose as a companion, valuable farm helper, and guardian, all of which make him an adaptable and outstanding house pet. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a dog who wants to be involved with it's family (owners) and it's family needs to be involved too. The Cardigan Corgi is full of fun and will shower it's family with devotion and sensible affection. Caring for it's family (including children) comes naturally to this intelligent, alert and responsible dog. Because they're very expressive and easily trained, Cardigan Welsh Corgi's have been seen in several recent motion pictures.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is even-tempered, loyal, affectionate, and adaptable. Never shy nor vicious.
